A Tale of Magic, Crystals, and a War Spanning a Generation

Something about the shorter days, longer nights, and magic of the holidays makes me yearn for a new adventure. I stumbled upon The Book of Deacon by Joseph R. Lallo, and was instantly swept away to a world filled with crystals, dragons, magic, and war.

The Book of Deacon opens in a dark world, riddled with war. A war that has been raging for over a hundred years. Myranda’s discontent with a war that has ravaged her homeland marks her as an outcast. Roaming the wilds of the north, she stumbles upon a dead soldier with a sword. Little does she know that encounter will set a new path before her.

From escaping an assassin, finding a dragon, being trained by a crotchety old wizard, to nearly dying in a cave, Myranda’s journey is one filled with adventure. She finds herself among a community of people who seek to understand elemental magic.

Naturally gifted, Myranda discovers layers of herself she never knew she possessed. Myranda must accept all of who she is and also accept that which she cannot control.

The book leaves off on a huge cliffhanger, but I know we can expect quite an adventure if we follow Myranda into the dark.

What sort of stories do you like to read during the fall months? Do you switch up genres and types of stories with the seasons?
