Lily agrees to go on a date at a restaurant with Jake, whom she's never met. He turns out to be fun, sweet and kind of mysterious. Against her own better judgement, she decides to go home with him—and that turns out to be the biggest mistake of her life.
Jake's parents are out of town, so they have the whole, impressive mansion to themselves. Jake makes Lily a drink, goes upstairs but doesn't come back down. Lily waits patiently for several minutes. Still, no Jake. Finally, she goes upstairs to look for him. And that's when the horror begins
Halloween may be over, but I don’t need an excuse to dip into a scary story do I? This psychological thriller short had my heart racing. It probably wasn’t the best idea to read before bed when my husband was away on business. So here is my recommendation: read in a well lit room, and don’t go to sleep in an empty house afterwards if you have an overactive imagination that is anything like mine. I found myself suspecting certain characters of being the antagonist, but the actual villain took me by surprise. The story was very well written. And the twist at the end...don’t even get me started. I look forward to reading more from Clauson.
